Do you look for creative ways to use the Heartbeat API? Maybe you’re just waiting for the perfect moment to use wp_list_pluck()? You’re in good company! SkyVerge is looking for a full-time WordPress engineer to join our fully-distributed team. You’ll be responsible for writing and maintaining code that helps power mission-critical tools over a half-million WooCommerce stores.
This position is focused on development for WooCommerce, which is the largest eCommerce platform in the world, powering over 1.7 million online stores. While familiarity with WooCommerce is a huge plus, experience with WordPress and extensive knowledge of its architecture (actions/filters, WPDB, WP_Query, etc) is a hard requirement - we know you'll love learning WooCommerce from the ground-up, or be excited to level up your existing knowledge as needed.
Our WooCommerce plugins usually involve our entire development team with one engineer as project lead. You'll be involved in reviewing, maintaining, and building plugins from collaborative spec and following both WordPress and our internal code standards and frameworks. You’ll also participate in one week support rotation (roughly once every 5 weeks) to help diagnose and resolve advanced support queries. Finally, you’ll participate in peer code reviews, both reviewing other’s code and implementing feedback on your own.
If you're our ideal team member, you take pride in committing object-oriented, PHP 5.2-compatible code to GitHub. You love solving engineering challenges in the most pragmatic way possible with code that’s clear, readable, and standards-compliant. More importantly, you appreciate how beautiful a solution is when any customer can use it, and you love getting feedback from and interacting with customers to improve our products.
You're excited to join a small team that loves their work as much as you do, and affords the opportunity to work on interesting projects, continuously learn and improve, and to constantly ship cool projects. You're an excellent communicator, whether written, in person, or via video chat. You know that code is about communication and that explaining yourself clearly goes hand-in-hand.
Our team is fully remote and stays in touch primarily via Slack and weekly stand-ups over Zoom. Nothing beats face time though, so availability for 1-2 company-paid team trips per year is necessary.
This is a full-time, salaried position, but hours are flexible. We know your work will speak for itself with commits, issues closed, and wiki edits. However, fit with our team and culture is important. As a result, all of our team members go through a 30-day period as a contractor before becoming a permanent team member. This helps us (and you) make sure we’re an ideal match. If not, either one of us can say, “Thanks!" and move on to different projects.
Here are some benefits we're excited to offer to our team members:
- Competitive salary
- Performance incentives for meeting team and company goals
- 25 days of paid time-off, in addition to 2 company holidays
- Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance for US and Canadian residents and their families (reimbursements for comparable care for non-US/Canadian residents)
- Retirement plan with company match
- The tools (hardware/software) you need to be successful
- Allowance for professional growth (books, conferences)
- Home office or co-working allowance
- A Kindle to help you keep learning
We support workplace diversity and don’t discriminate on any protected class. We believe that when we work together as a team of different views, experiences, and ideas we can build amazing things.
